Hello DIY lovers! Todays art is inspired by a print I saw on Pinterest, as is almost everything I do. It may be an addiction. I loved the print, so I clicked through to the original site to find that this print was selling for $20. No way was I going to spend $20 on some lips and lashes! Immediately a light bulb went off in my head, I’ll DIY it! Luckily I am married to a closet artist who has a little collection of watercolor and acrylic paints paired with a brand new brush set I had bought him for his birthday! Being the awesome husband he is, he of course let me borrow his supplies and I was off! Loaded with a box chuck full of frames my grandma had given me, (aren’t I lucky!) and my art supplies, I didn’t even have to leave the house for this DIY makeup face wall art!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Frame
  • White paint for frame. (I had some left over from my Modern Organic inspired tv stand DIY)
  • Foam paint brush
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Paint brushes for watercolor and acrylics
  • Pencil
  • Cup
  • Watercolors
  • White Poster board or paper.

Start by taking everything out of your frame and paint it white using the foam brush. Set that aside to dry.

Pull out your precut piece of poster board or paper and lightly trace out the lips. I made mine 3″ wide and 1 1/4″ tall at the highest point with a 1/4″ opening.

Next use your cup to help you shape the lashes, mine are 2″ wide. Do this by placing two points 2 inches apart, place your cup on the paper so that either point is touching an edge of the cup and trace around the cup.

Next three dots along the curves to mark where you want your lashes to end. I did 1/2″ at the outsides and middle, and 1/4″ on the insides.

Now you have your outline and it is time to paint! I started with the lashes by taking a square brush and painting a strip of black right along the outline I had just drawn. This will be the base of your lashes so it doesn’t need to be perfect.

Turn your brush and use the end to dab on the lash strands. You can be pretty random with it, besides whose lashes are perfectly symmetrical right?

Keep adding layers and layers to build your lashes by slightly turning your brush to add different directions to the strands. Once you are satisfied with the look Move onto your watercolor lips.

Fill your cup with some water and start painting. Now let your creativity guide you, this is why I love water colors so much! You don’t even need good watercolors! I am using those palette you use in elementary school! I started by using a watered down red to outline my lips. When this dries enough I also erased my pencil markings.

I then filled the lip and added some orange…

And purple!

Once you are satisfied by how it looks, set it aside to dry then add it to your frame! I spend $0 with this DIY saving myself $20! This wall art is perfect onto a vanity or in your girl’s room!
