Hey guys, today’s post goes way back to the very first thing I made for Jamie right when I found out I was pregnant. This DIY is an easy minky baby blanket, and I mean easy! I use this blanket everyday, it is placed inside his swing and so for some naps, I’ll place him in and wrap the blanket around him. I feel like he is starting to correlate the blanket with naps! When I wrap him in it, his eyes immediately start to roll back, it’s hilarious! I really love making things for my baby, the ability to customize and make exactly what you want for sometimes cheaper than you can buy it, is so satisfying. Especially because these are thing I would have bought anyway.
Making this blanket, like I said, was incredibly easy and only took me about 20 minutes.
Here’s What You’ll need:
- 1 yard flannel fabric
- 1 yard minky fabric
- matching thread
I bought all of my items at Joann fabric store. Make sure to use a coupon! They always have coupons on their site, so I always pull one up on my phone at check out, or you can use them online!
Start by washing and drying the fabric, and ironing the flannel. Decide what size you want, I made a 30×40″ blanket, but you could make a bigger one if you prefer.
Cut the fabric to be 31×41″ and lay on top of each other right sides together, and pin. Sew together using 1/2″ seam allowances, leaving about a 6″ opening.
Flip your blanket right side out through the opening, turn the edges of the opening in and top stitch using 1/2″ seam allowances.
Press using a warm iron and presto! Your warm minky blanket is done!
This minky baby blanket is the perfect gift for a baby shower or make it for yourself! This is also a great beginner project if you aren’t very familiar with sewing! Have fun!Cassie Jean
